How to measure a drawer for an organizer

Empty the drawer and measure the inside along the bottom: width (left to right), depth (front to back) and height. Measure the width and depth in three places and use the smallest number, so the organizer slides in without forcing.

What you need

A tape measure or ruler. Centimetres or inches both work: the designer takes either, and accepts things like 53,5 or 21 1/2.

Steps

1. Empty the drawer and wipe out crumbs, so you’re measuring the real floor.
2. Width: measure inside, left wall to right wall, along the bottom. Do it at the front, middle and back. Write down the smallest.
3. Depth: measure inside, front wall to back wall, along the bottom. Do it on the left, centre and right. Write down the smallest.
4. Height: measure from the drawer floor to the top of the side wall. If something above the drawer hangs lower than that edge, measure to that instead.
5. Check for lips and rails: if the front has an inward lip or there’s a slide rail inside, measure to its inside face, not past it.
6. Type the three numbers into the designer. It shows the price and lets you arrange the compartments.

Why the smallest number?

Drawers are rarely perfectly square. Using the smallest width and depth means the organizer goes in cleanly everywhere. We make it slightly smaller than the size you type so it drops in without forcing, while still filling the drawer wall to wall.

Common mistakes

• Measuring the outside of the drawer box or the drawer front.
• Measuring across the top edge, where many drawers flare a little wider than the floor.
• Mixing units, like width in inches and depth in cm. Pick one; the designer has a cm/inches switch.

Should I measure inside or outside the drawer?

Inside. Measure from wall to wall inside the empty drawer, along the bottom.

Can I measure in inches?

Yes. The designer has a cm/inches switch and shows the centimetre conversion as you type.

What if my drawer is not square?

Measure the width and depth in three places each and use the smallest numbers. The organizer will go in cleanly.
